Passing through Atrani during the Christmas season, you can sense an air of anticipation. Songs and lights prepare the atmosphere for the joyous event that, at dawn on December 24th, will see the procession that inaugurates the most radiant day of the year, a prelude to the birth of Baby Jesus after a night of vigil along alleys and stairways, where bagpipes and bagpipes compete with small fireworks. An extraordinary spectacle that takes place every year,from December 8th to the end of January.
Atrani's extraordinary attraction was already known at the end of the 19th century, thanks to the famous travel guides founded by the German Karl Baedeker. Atrani lies at the entrance to a ravine, on each side of which the houses rise picturesquely. The church of S. Salvatore di Biretto, on the Marina, contains handsome bronze doors, of Byzantine workmanship of the 11th cent., monuments of the Doges of Amalfi, and others of the Saracenic period.
